Edgar Sahondo was born on August 13th, 1968, in Guruve, Zimbabwe. He attended Chakaodza Primary School and then St. Francis Mission School for his secondary education. Bernard Matemera, a well-known artist, motivated Edgar to pursue stone carving during his high school years. He was invited to join the Tengenege Sculpture Community after graduating and worked there for two years before moving to Harare in 1990. For about three years, he worked at the Kentucky Airport Hotel before deciding to pursue his passion for art and began sculpting full-time. Edgar had his debut exhibition in 1996 at the Sandros Gallery in Harare. He took part in a number of annual exhibitions. In 1998, he did a one-man show in Cape Town, South Africa. On July 15, 2001, he was featured alongside Heather Fynn, a well-known art promoter, in the Daily Mail, displaying a sculpture titled “Protecting the Future.” Edgar is a gifted and accomplished artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries and private collections all over the world.
